Traveling through Cologne with a VRR ticket?

Hello everyone,

I'm currently studying in Wuppertal, and the university gave me a semester ticket. This is valid for the VRR (public transport system) area. However, I come from near Cologne, or rather a little outside of Cologne, and on trips to Wuppertal, where I was usually checked in the Cologne area, or even before Cologne, I showed my semester ticket. This was never a problem, or rather, it was always accepted by the inspectors' devices. Now a fellow student told me that Cologne is no longer in the VRR area, and that theoretically I couldn't travel in the Cologne area with it. Now the question is, is that true? I'm wondering why I was never told anything during checks. Does anyone know anything about this?

Thank you in advance!

No, Cologne is not in the VRR.

But as owner of VRR ester tickets you should also add Semesterticket NRW which is valid throughout NRW (but without the aid rules applicable in the VRR).

Your communion is right. Cologne is not connected to the VRR. Cologne belongs to the VRS, which extends directly to the VRR area.
