We dream several times every night. 1-2 times per hour, each lasting 10-20 minutes on average.

But we only remember the dreams during which we wake up. If you suddenly remember more dreams, it's probably because you're sleeping more restlessly and waking up more often during the night (even if you don't later remember waking up).

Are you sure this applies to everyone? Do you think it's possible that there are studies that show that some people dream less than others? This isn't a rhetorical question.

This applies to everyone. During each night, we go through different sleep phases, and during the REM sleep phase, we dream. Always.

But as I said, if we don't wake up during this phase, we won't remember it.

Oh yes, there's still a lot of research going on. Only a few years ago, researchers discovered why muscles are 100% relaxed during REM sleep, or dreaming.

Interesting. What surprises me is that, even though we humans spend about a third of our lives sleeping, science doesn't place more value on sleep and dream research.
