To all snake keepers : Which snake for beginners?
Hi the question goes to everyone who knows about snakes : I am planning to get a snake (later) and wanted to hear some opinions which snake is better for beginners : a corn snake or a (king) python Ps are there things I/you should urgently consider ? Thanks in advance 🙂
If you only pulled these two species into the narrower selection, I would give preference to a corn-gate (Elaphe guttata). Just as easy to hold would be for a novice still a blunt bandgate (Thamnophis sirtalis), which can be easily fed out of hand with deep-frozen trout pieces (naturally accumulated). At Kornnattern I have often experienced that they only take living mice and the strangling of the hearty mice is not exactly a beautiful sight for an animal friend. Grain seedlings are climbing oysters and require a sufficiently high terrarium with climbing possibilities. By the way, I’ve seen someone holding a corn scatter and a royal python (Python regius) together in a terrarium. This is not necessarily recommended for imitation. Above all at Albino-Kornnattern, I have seen that they can be rather bite.
Thanks that was very helpful;)
Thanks for the star!
Oha, I wouldn’t recommend a king python to a beginner, because you’re better advised with a cornnnatter, as these tend to eat less than the king python. Royal pythons are generally very stress-sensitive animals that quickly drive so many beginners into madness with small initial stances.
However, I would not recommend you blunt bands, because unlike SibTiger says, they are not only fed with fish (including should also be food for life, e.g. guppys) but also 50% fed with nuts as soon as they are adult.
If you have problems feeding live animals, then there is also frosted food that most of the people who know it from small, also like to take. However, you have to agree with your certain, because both sides have their advantages and disadvantages.
Nevertheless, I wouldn’t say now, take the corn scatters because it’s easier. I started with royal pythons and don’t regret it today, because I just chose the snake I liked best. Because no snake makes problems or is difficult to keep if you are well informed and simply do not make mistakes. But since beginners can pass many mistakes, one speaks of so-called beginner snakes, which rather forgive these mistakes. Nevertheless, it is not a free ticket to experiment with these animals around and there should be no reason to get exactly these and no other snake.. There’s no way anyone can do a dach to practice for a Huskey later 😀 My advice so: inform yourself well, buy you literature first, read through you in reptilienforen and check out your posture reports and choose the animal with which really the next 20 years are happy !
so I would recommend the air snake (boar the witz was so bad about that even I didn’t have to laugh)
Honestly, give the 10 points back!
I would have expected more help >:(
