Tips for trailer problems with pony?

Hello, I'm having trouble loading my pony gelding. I've had him for about six years, and in that time he hasn't ridden in a trailer once because he's always had massive problems loading.
He always climbs onto the trailer obediently and attentively. However, if you try to close the back bar or pretend to close it, he immediately runs back. Once we had the bar tucked in, and he somehow ran under it and pushed it up.

Since then, we've never done it again because of the risk of injury. We've even tried using a taut band instead of the bar. That actually worked well, but the bar doesn't work at all.

Would it be advisable to get a horse whisperer or do you have other tips or experiences?

Was it checked at the time whether this caused injury?

I wouldn’t go on doing this on my own, but I’d go get a capable coach. Remote diagnosis is not possible.

I knew a horse that also had such problems.
It’s like always under the bar and pushed it up.
The risk of injury is really enormous and a solution should be found quickly if it has to be found in the clinic.

I have to tell you, unfortunately, that the owners of the horse did not get in touch, the horse was then loaded into a cattle trailer for the necessary rides.

I don’t know you and the horse, so it’s getting hard with tips.
I’d maybe load the pony and then easily imitate the bar, so with the hands press easily against the Po.
Of course, this isn’t when the pony runs out as soon as there’s something in the back, that would be too dangerous for you!

If it really doesn’t change and you don’t know anymore, I might get some help.
It is now very important that a horse goes on the hanger, as it usually has to go fast in emergencies.

You should definitely get someone who offers something special. Many trainers, especially those who teach groundwork, offer loading training.

There is no need for a “horse whisper”, but simply someone with a clue. It is not possible to correct this behaviour remotely and you do not see what has already been done.

The hanger is not the problem, the rod is it.

My first approach to the solution would be to touch the places where the rod touches the horse. Is he particularly sensitive? Doesn’t he like that? Catch it with brushes and your own hand to the horse at these places to desensitize. It should learn that this is not bad when it is touched.

If you like the touches without a big “theatre”: praise!
If the touch is indifferent to him at some point:

Next step, you can do parallel to the desensibilisation steps: build and lay rod from hangers.

Put him on his paddock, in the hall or elsewhere. The rod and you, you will be inseparable and he can still look at the “mooner”, sniff it and find: The monster doesn’t eat me.

Take the bar at some point and lean on it, front hand or abdominal area, not the butt. Put the bar on it or do something else, just save the ass.

Get close to the ass. At some point, he’ll understand that the bar doesn’t eat his butt. You can padded the bar or something if it’s too cold on Popo… Some horses have very strange ticks…

Here the key is always: patience.

You notice quickly when your horse is overwhelmed when it’s scared or dense. Don’t go too far, but look that you always complete your training with a successful experience.

This is how the boy learns quickly: When I get through this, the olle stops and I have my rest – fits.

Actually you don’t need a “Pferdeflüsterer” how often have you practiced it? But don’t you know, of course it would be useful to take someone to help you before more happens! Hanger is always a very special and dangerous thing, but stop and put all on ice is also not right!

If he goes in a hamper, he’s not afraid of the hanger right now. I think he’s got a problem when something’s back. How does the pony behave when a long (e.g. double length) runs at the back? Or generally touched at the back? There are horses that react there highly sensitive but this can also be practiced outside the hanger. Please do not take any knit back as a replacement to the bar, it has safety reasons why there is a fixed rod!

If it turns back with the touches, you start with the hangers. It is best not to put the bar at the rear right away, but to stay in the hanger with the horse with the bar open until the pony has calmed down and stands still and crawls on the hay. Can this take a few days, but don’t put the bar before.

Keep the pony quiet, make touches with the hand behind. Scramble and play well. Also practice until the touches are almost ignored by the pony. Then you can start holding the back two people slowly a knit (not attaching a knit) and try to put the pony in the back. The time with more and more pressure until you can see that the pony is still quiet when the knit is really tight at the back. If one is there as far as the pony no longer itches the knit tightly, one can think of the rod. But let these also be gently felt back before closing them. It is best if a person stays in front until the hanger is closed and the pony becomes calm. A second horse while practicing with put in the hanger guess many. I personally do not think of it because the danger would be too great for the second horse to panic or get restless and as a person in the hanger I want to use every possibility or place to go to the side if necessary. If there are two horses in the hanger, it’ll be tight!! With patience and regular practice, one also comes to his goal.

In some horses/ponies, this is a long way out, but with this method I have always managed to get used to horses on the hanger with a lot of patience.

Horse in the hanger. Don’t touch. Bar not to make. Stay quietly praised and take away the horse. Then apologise to bring horse back away. Then the rod, then to make and only when everything works a small round about the farm
