Und was genau bedeutet “ablaufen” in diesem Zusammenhang?

Can the ink also run into the printer tanks?

Yes. That is why there is always an expiration date

And what exactly does “running” mean in this context? Are the quality lost?

Exactly. The quality is no longer given. This plays a role especially in the professional field, where a pressure must be true to color and is measured accordingly, for “normal use” this will probably play less.

However, I would not quite rule out that the ink could also form, for example, small lumps or something that can then block the nozzles around the print head.

It can dry and then becomes so viscous that you quickly get a clogged print.

I know in-dry print heads, go quickly if the print head is not allowed to park (switched over plug bar). If the printer is not used for months, one nozzle will dry after the other. I’ve never experienced overlaid ink.
