Theoretically, there is no remote position for my position in the company. How do I convince my employer to allow this?
Good evening everyone 🙂
I currently live in Berlin with my partner, who is only here on weekends due to work. We're considering moving closer to his work so we can continue to see each other during the week.
Theoretically, I don't want to change employers. Since it's an office job, 100% remote work would be possible. However, so far, everyone in my department has been required to work two days a week. Now I want to talk to my supervisor about my plans and ask if they can convert my position to a full-time remote position.
A little about me and my job: I've been here for 3.5 years, have already advanced within the department, and my name is well-known. I'm very organized, a team player, and the kind of person you need to make things work in a company.
Side note: The company generally offers 100% remote work in other areas, with travel to Berlin twice a month, but I'm not qualified for this, but it's at least offered.
Do you have any experience or tips on how I can best conduct the conversation in order to achieve my goal?
Thank you in advance!
We also have the 2 days office duty.
But there are strange things with us if you can put a good reason.
Good reason would be:
But they also don’t have to set 100% remote.
Nen colleague with small children commutes the 400 or so km to work every 2 weeks, in the morning, in the evening.
Personally, I’d be looking for a good reason. “We are already living together, but want to move closer to my friend’s work” sounds to me as if you’re the friend’s work on your behalf. It’s probably not a good reason.
“I want to move with my friend and he has self-used property in Munich” sounds more like “we don’t really have an alternative to the place of residence but the work here is important to me”
Your best argument would probably be one that sounds after that you have a situation that is urgent/important/alternative and is not compatible with the 2 days presence, but it also emerges that the work at the AG is as important to you, if you somehow don’t want to quit. The problem with such an argument is that you’re stupid when they say no and you stay. Then it will be seen that it was not so urgent/important/alternative.
