Temporarily delete WhatsApp – what happens to the messages?

If I only delete the WhatsApp app (not the account itself) from my phone and reinstall it 1-2 days later, will I still receive all the messages that would have arrived in the meantime, or are they essentially lost?

WhatsApp stores unissued messages up to 30 days on the servers.

If they were unable to be delivered within time, they never arrive at the recipient.

With your 2 days you will receive all missed messages later.

Watch your local chat history when uninstalling.

The chat history, i.e. all previous messages, is only stored locally. WhatsApp does not keep messages posted on their servers.

When you uninstall WhatsApp, all app data will be deleted* and thus also the chat history.

For Android, you can keep the app data for certain apps, such as the app data.

So you have to explicitly create a chat backup and restore it afterwards.

Yeah.

Here is a section from the WhatsApp Privacy Policy:

If a message cannot be delivered, we store it up to 30 days in encrypted form on our servers and at this time try to deliver it. If a message has not been delivered after 30 days, we will delete it. […]
