Technical product designer, but what else?
Hi,
In January of this year, I completed an apprenticeship as a technical product designer specializing in mechanical and plant engineering. Afterward, I worked as a draftsman for three months. They didn't want me, so I'm now looking for a job again. A little about me: I have absolutely no interest in machines and have never been inspired by them in my entire life. Why I did the apprenticeship in this field is a long story, which I don't want to go into now, and you can simply ignore that question.
Now to my actual question: I'm, and always have been, extremely interested in visual design. I should have trained as a media designer, I know, but that's just how it turned out. And retraining immediately after my training isn't an option for me. I'm almost 25 and I want to work properly.
What options do I have for pursuing a career like media design with my training? I don't mean that profession specifically, but simply something creative. I know it's possible, but I don't know the term.
Thanks in advance for the serious answers! xD
Product design for mechanical engineering is quite different from media design – one is technical designers and requires technical knowledge and the other is for optics. This is clear to you that one has nothing to do with the other, even if the misleading way is now called both designers.
If you don’t want to do your job, do something else. Was then a waste of time – with your training you can’t just get in that way. Do a new training or study – but there is sooooo much competition you probably don’t have a job again.
I suggest you look for a job and make the creative next door (release study goes here too) if you can get in there right well and if you don’t have a safe income.
The cool thing about creative is goes even without pre-education and without training if you have learned enough to not need training.
here an extract from this page https://www.training.de/berufe/technical product designer/
because technical product designers have very different products that they have to implement in design. From spectacles to vehicles, excavators, coffee machines, technical devices or exhibition stands – technical product designers are responsible for a wide range of areas. As a creative head, you are very well-resolved here
also smartphones zb would belong to this, and just hall machines.
and this is visual and designing, so your training can use without problems, except you want art completely without technology, but it would be more craftsmanship.
