Tax return – tuition fees?

Dear community,

I need advice regarding a tax return. I'm quite knowledgeable in this area myself, but I'm not sure about the current case.

Here's what happened: My boyfriend terminated his employment contract, but had offered me a continuing education contract with his company for a part-time course. The amount paid amounts to over €12,000, and the course duration is 3.5 years. Due to his departure, the entire amount had to be repaid, which happened on December 29th. The fees were not tax deductible in recent years because they were not incurred.

But now we have paid the entire amount and we would of course like to claim this as a tax deduction if possible.

Can anyone clarify whether this is possible, and if so, how? (In 2022, fully or partially, etc.?)

Thank you in advance.

You can only claim the money in the year it was paid. As I understand you have paid the complete sum in 2021 so this also comes completely into the tax return 2021 probably as a special edition (first training)
