Landscape zones: Which one does Madeira belong to – perennially humid or winter humid subtropics?

Purely a question of interest, as I'm always puzzled by the different landscapes. Madeira doesn't fit perfectly into either of these zones and has several characteristics of each. I would categorize Madeira as a humid subtropical region based on the presence of bay trees, but there are many arguments against that. Any opinions on this?
