I want to share a status update with images only with a specific person. You can actually select that in WhatsApp. I've saved the contact, but I can't find it in the dropdown list for sharing the status update. What could be wrong?

Can I only see who has read my status if I have specified under Settings > Privacy that all of my contacts can see the status. Or does this also work if I exclude contacts or only click on certain contacts?
