Why doesn’t the number of bubbles remain constant?

I've been running a CO2 system in my aquarium for a few days now. Since the water currently still has quite high carbonate hardness (I'm already gradually reducing it with reverse osmosis water), I'm running the system at 120 bubbles per minute. That's currently just enough to produce a turquoise color in the long-term test….
