Suitable SATA M.2 SSD for 24/7 operation?

Hello everyone,

I am currently looking for a suitable SATA SSD for my Raspberry Pi case;

https://www.amazon.de/Argon-Aluminium-Geh%C3%A4use-SSD-Unterst%C3%BCtzung-Einschaltung Knopf-Kompatibel/dp/B08MJ3CSW7

It is the Argon ONE M.2, as found in the link above on Amazon.

However, I'm not that familiar with SSDs and don't know exactly what type of SSD will fit in this case.

The description says:

  • "Discover the possibilities: Take your Raspberry Pi 4 case to the next level with the included M.2 SATA expansion board. Maximize Raspberry Pi 4 SSD usage with any M.2 SATA SSD B Key or B+M Key."

Does that mean I can also install a Kingston A400 SSD into the case? ( https://www.digitec.ch/de/s1/product/kingston-a400-480-gb-25-ssd-6305464?supplier=406802 )

This is a simple SATA SSD, but not an M.2, right?

As an alternative, I found the following 2 SSDs online (128 GB is enough for me), which also have good reviews on Amazon:

  1. https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0779F4DHF/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza
  2. https://www.amazon.de/Intenso-3832430-Performance-interne-128GB/dp/B077D1WYW3/?_encoding=UTF8& pd_rd_w=A8SB1&content-id=amzn1.sym.adb6b60a-ec96-4295-8e84-3a18efb7292c%3Aamzn1.symc.cdb151ed-d 8fe-485d-b383-800c8b0e3fd3&pf_rd_p=adb6b60a-ec96-4295-8e84-3a18efb7292c&pf_rd_r=PYV3BH8QC18ST78 KPSPV&pd_rd_wg=MCHle&pd_rd_r=2187be48-69c6-4872-a6a9-245645f81563&ref_=pd_gw_ci_mcx_mr_hp_atf_m
  3. https://www.amazon.de/Patriot-P300-PCIe-Power-Consumption/dp/B0822Y6N1C/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd _w=A8SB1&content-id=amzn1.sym.adb6b60a-ec96-4295-8e84-3a18efb7292c%3Aamzn1.symc.cdb151ed-d8fe -485d-b383-800c8b0e3fd3&pf_rd_p=adb6b60a-ec96-4295-8e84-3a18efb7292c&pf_rd_r=PYV3BH8QC18ST78K PSPV&pd_rd_wg=MCHle&pd_rd_r=2187be48-69c6-4872-a6a9-245645f81563&ref_=pd_gw_ci_mcx_mr_hp_atf_m

But do these SSDs fit the description "M.2 SATA SSD B Key or B+M Key"? I have no idea what a B Key or B+M Key is, and the SSD's description doesn't mention anything about it either.

It would be great if someone could briefly explain this to me in a way that I can understand and tell me whether the SSDs are suitable and if not, or if there is a better one (faster or, for example, better value for money, etc.), just give me a quick response.

The SSD should also be able to run 24/7 and therefore not break down. See below for details on why.

Brief context of why I need all this:

I'm trying to set up a Home Assistant "server" (a software for home automation) with a Raspberry Pi 4b. The whole thing should run 24/7.

Thank you very much🙌🏼

Does that mean I can add a Kingston A400 SSD to the case?

No, the case is for SSDs in m.2 format. A 2.5″ SSD doesn’t fit in.

I have no idea what a B Key or B+M Key is

This means the notches following the SSD.

Do these SSD’s now respond to the description “M.2 SATA SSD B Key or B+M Key”?

The first two links lead to m.2 SATA SSDs which also have the described B+M keys.

The third SSD is a m.2 NVMe SSD with only the M Key, so it does not fit into your case.

Google just after “M.2 SATA SSD”, then you see what this looks like.

It is a fairly small chip that is clamped directly into a small slot on the board. No classic SATA port like hard drives or SSDs in 3.5-inch format.
