Studying automotive engineering careers?

I'm currently torn about whether I should study automotive engineering. It would be at the Munich University of Applied Sciences, and it's exactly what I'm interested in. What's the difference between automotive engineering students and mechanical engineering students for automotive manufacturers? Would I have a realistic chance of working as an engineer in this field at top automotive companies after completing my studies?

Above all, as someone at the Munich University of Applied Sciences, you have even better chances to establish contacts with BMW, Daimler, etc.
