Severe pain after changing piercings (nostril)?

Hello, I've had a nostril piercing for almost 2 years. I've had a stud in for almost 3 months (previously a ring), which I lost a few days ago. After 3 days without a stud, I was able to get a new one put in yesterday by my piercer. I had kept the piercing canal open with a titanium earring over the last few days. Since having the piercer put in, however, I've been in a lot of pain. It's throbbing a little now and I can hardly touch the area. There are no signs of infection, such as pus or anything else.

I clean the piercing as usual with piercing spray and have never really had any problems with previous changes. Does anyone know anything about this and can tell me if I should be concerned and how I can alleviate the pain a little?

I have over 6 piercings now but I've never experienced this before.
