Stowaway from vacation, what should I do?
Hello, I have a big problem and hope you can help me!!😫 I just came back from Egypt yesterday and unpacked my things. I don't know how but somehow a mussel ended up in my backpack!! I didn't think anything of it and picked it up and saw a small skerry. I thought it was dead but I didn't give up hope. I quickly got a glass of tap water and put it in. This morning I woke up and the crab was peeking out. What should I do?! I can't just leave it like that or release it into the lake. After all, it's a saltwater animal, right? I feel so incredibly sorry for the little one and would like to help him, but I also don't want to keep him if possible!
A small cancer in a shell? This is a hermitic cancer.
Mix some salt into the water and wash the water daily until you have a better solution. And don't let him in the waterglass, but take the largest, clean, break-proof vessel you have. You don't have to salt up to seawater level, but pure freshwater is not good for cancer at all. Raw fish is suitable as a feed. But you have to make sure that nothing remains because residues would poison the water.
If you have a nearby zoo with aquaria department, you can ask if they can put the hermitic cancer. You can also ask for aquarium associations nearby ( https://vda-online.de/Vereine/ ). Although hermitic carcinoma is not very widespread, there are definitely lovers who really know each other well. If nothing can be found in the area, you need to consult aquarium forums or Facebook groups on the Internet.
In no case, this is a kind that has not lost anything here, and either would not survive, or could cause great damage.
Try to find Aquarians near you who takes them. (Finding groups on Facebook)
Find a dealer for aquarium needs nearby, ask if he has a water aquarium and if you can leave the crab there
