Storing spring water in canisters – shelf life?

Hello,

I have a spring nearby where the water is very good. Many people there regularly fill it into canisters and drink it at home. My question is, how long does this water last in the canisters? A friend said that since it's not purified like tap water, bacteria and other things could multiply over time. Is that true? Can I store the water in the canisters at home and drink it for two or three months, or should I only use it for cooking after a certain amount of time?

Thanks for help!

To drink, I wouldn’t take it for more than 3, a maximum of four days. Your buddy’s right. The water is clean, but not germ-free. Of course, bacteria grow very slowly in clean water, because hardly any nutrients are in it, but the biesters are tedious.

This is of course possible for a longer time, but I would not store it for months.

That’s not a problem. For stubborn germs, you have to let the water boil for 10 minutes, or cook even better in a high-speed cooker – as you create higher temperatures.

Hello,

with us there is also such a source where many people bring water, allegedly we even testify to the source of healing! In the meantime, however, the removal was prohibited by court, but with little success, because some still come with canisters and bottles on handcarts!

I would be careful with storage for a longer period of time! In addition, not every source is absolutely really clean, i.e. groundwater, often it comes from a mountain/hill where cows are above it or is arable land, as with the above mentioned and the water can therefore be loaded with all possible!

do not know your source, but if, as in Bad Cannstatt or Karlsbad, there are public and supervised drinking wells with mineral water, there are no doubts, except that the mineral water is very iron-containing or sulphur-containing, then a max. Storage time at home from 3 days.

Otherwise, I recommend adding micropure tablets to your water stored in canister.

You really have to watch

best is when water buys in bottles

or a water filter, then in case of emergency can filter and drink water from a brook.

Hello, UndeadFishbone.

In consideration of what source this is, you should not store.

Get so much that you used the water in 3 days.

Greetings, Renate.

Airtight (in a closed clean bottle or canister) is spring water / mineral water unlimited durability. Often the water is hundreds of years old when it comes out of the ground.

I think that’s a rumor. For then it would have to take hundreds of years until, after heavy rainfall, the bulk and water levels of these sources increase. But he’s not like that, that’s happening within a few days.
So the water cycle doesn’t take so long.
