Store data securely as a backup?

Hello,

I have digitized hundreds of VHS tapes and saved them on external hard drives, but they only have a lifespan of a few years.

So my question is, what would be a secure and reasonably affordable way to store the data online as a backup?

For your information, there are about 20 TB of movie files.

No, as long as you’re not constantly writing with them, and they’re not gonna shorten their life.

Would put on one or more large HDD(s). Are far from as cost-intensive as an online store in the order of magnitude and SSDs are, in my opinion, overkill for such a purpose. Regarding the amount of data you mentioned, you could consider compressing your video files, e.g. with a software like “Handbrake”. With the right settings, you get far smaller files with minimal quality loss. This saves space and money when buying the hardware.

Moin,

So 20 TB is a clean amount… there are also clean monthly costs.

I would recommend you to buy some good SSD records for the money

(they’re pretty fast and there’s a lot to do; and as long as you’re not erasing, describing, keeping them also)

Otherwise, I would make a price comparison with which provider you will get storage space for a fair price.

ATTENTION: the providers who are cheap also have a cheap data center with a lack of fire protection etc there are some cases where this is torched quickly, but for that it was cheap.

As I said, I recommend a safe and SSD/HDD plates

I also have many movies that I have played on an external 18 TB hard drive, record is from WD, cost 300 euros. And it doesn’t cost any more.

In fact, if one treats them to some extent careless, burned DVD-R are amazingly durable.
