Paying taxes with a part-time job as a student?

Hello,

I currently work 14 hours a week as a student and wanted to ask if I even have to pay taxes, since the tax allowance for students is around €1,150 per month, and I get less than that. I also still live at home and have family insurance.

If this is a “Short term employment” e.g. as a holiday job or max. 3 months or 70 working days a year, you are still insured in the free family insurance via the parents 😉

Income tax is available for singles Basic allowance of currently 10.347€ per year + 1,200€ Advertising cost package; so until 11.547€ a year, the income tax is free!

What income limits apply to family insurance?

  • The total monthly income of the co-insured family member may be: EUR 470 (approximately 2022). Please note that you are subject to insurance if you receive a regular wage of over 450 euros (from 1.10.2022 above 520€). A co-insurance in non-contributory family insurance is then excluded.
  • These income limits also apply to children and students and pensioners. The part of the pension paid for periods of child-raising is not taken into account in the calculation.
  • Short-term employment is not contrary to family insurance. It shall not exceed three months or 70 working days within a calendar year.
  • Family insurance is not possible for selfemployed persons and trainees with training allowances.

Well, family insurance has done if the job is not limited from the beginning to 3 months / 70 days.

Taxes do not apply up to just 1.225,- € gross.
