Steam save game after new purchase?

Hello, I bought a game on Steam, but I received Steam credit as a gift. Can I return the game (I haven't played it for more than 2 hours yet, so that would be fine) and then buy it with the credit? Will I then continue where I left off, or will my save game be lost? best regards

This should go, with most games, a cloud storage level remains even after uninstalling.
