Steam doesn't recognize existing The Elder Scrolls Online files?
I have The Elder Scrolls Online installed on my laptop, but not on my PC. Because I get throttled if my data usage is too high, I can't simply download the 67 GB to my PC. Since TESO doesn't have a backup function on Steam, I split the entire file from common into several archives using WinRAR and then unpacked them into the common folder on my PC. However, Steam doesn't recognize that the files already exist and still wants to download the entire 67 GB. Therefore, although I can start TESO directly from the launcher, when I log in I get the message "Connection to Steam failed" because, logically, I can't start it from Steam either. So now I have a game that basically works, but I can't play it. All the suggested solutions I've found so far either worked via Steam's backup function or assumed that Steam detects when files are present and adjusts the download accordingly. I would be very grateful for any helpful advice.
Since I’ve never done this with a Steam game before, I can only “presume” that the required Windows registry entries are missing on your PC so that the game starts, as it has not been installed, or (so I have no experiences yet) Steam only allows an insallation for 1x PC and works with a Hardware ID /MAC Address detection.
You could try “regedit” on the laptop to search for those entries, export them as a file and then run on the PC to write them into the registry, but then all file paths must match.
Of course on YOUR OWN!
