Steam doesn't recognize game even though it's there?

I don't know what's going on or how it happened.

It says here that I need to install ARK.

Here you can see that I downloaded it.
Is there a solution to fix this problem without reinstalling ARK?

I recently uninstalled a VPN program, I think it's been like this since then, but I'm not sure.

So, Steam works with so-called manifest files.

Sounds complicated, but basically this is just an identification file that Steam says "this game is on the file system".

You'll find the manifest files in your Steam folder under "steamapps". From your directory (screenshot) so probably a directory high. There you will find loud .acf files. These are the manifest files.

Now it is important to find the manifest file for Ark and compare it with your file. Unfortunately, google was surprisingly little helpful so far.

edit: You can follow this tutorial: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/file details/?id=379830692 This is for Portal 2. So you need to adjust the App ID.

Here is the App ID for ARK: https://store.steamed.com/app/346110/ARK_Survival_Evolved/

346110 is the app ID

It would be easier if someone gave you this file. The full file is called appmanifest_346110.acf

Otherwise try this version:

 "AppState" { "appid" "346110" "Universe" "1" "name" "ARK: Survival Evolved" "StateFlags" "4" "installdir" "ARK" "LastUpdated" "1486358591" "UpdateResult" "0" "SizeOnDisk" "77625890411" "buildid" "1610614" "LastOwner" "76561198063241244" "BytesToDownload" "15365684048" "BytesDownloaded" "15365684048" "AutoUpdateBehavior" "0" "AllowOtherDownloadsWhileRunning" "0" "UserConfig" { "language" "english" } "MountedDepots" { "228983" "8124929965194586177" "228984" "3215975441341951460" "228985" "5758075142805954616" "228990" "1829726630299308803" "346111" "4003893362596855409" "346114" "3858060005892100171" "375351" "6988691406799822468" } "InstallScripts" { "0" "_CommonRedist\\vcredist\\2010\\installscript.vdf" "1" "_CommonRedist\\vcredist\\2012\\installscript.vdf" "2" "_CommonRedist\\vcredist\\2013\\installscript.vdf" "3" "_CommonRedist\\DirectX\\Jun2010\\installscript.vdf" } "DlcDownloads" { "473850" { "BytesDownloaded" "1686834592" "BytesToDownload" "1686834592" } "512540" { "BytesDownloaded" "1546125856" "BytesToDownload" "1546125856" } } }

But that should really go.

If the versions previously also forgot AppState, this is probably needed *cough*

Can you try this?

 { "appid" "346110" "Universe" "1" "name" "ARK: Survival Evolved" "StateFlags" "4" "installdir" "ARK" "LastUpdated" "1546915851" "UpdateResult" "0" "SizeOnDisk" "12772699651" "buildid" "3261795" "LastOwner" "76561198124511924" "BytesToDownload" "0" "BytesDownloaded" "123456" "AutoUpdateBehavior" "0" "AllowOtherDownloadsWhileRunning" "0" "ScheduledAutoUpdate" "0" "StagingFolder" "1" "UserConfig" { "language" "english" } "InstalledDepots" { "624" { "manifest" "6415342253277896102" } "622" { "manifest" "2180841775043336221" } "621" { "manifest" "5315625579909971887" } "323180" { "manifest" "4821416258997072443" "dlcappid" "323180" } } "MountedDepots" { "624" "6415342253277896102" "622" "2180841775043336221" "621" "5315625579909971887" "323180" "4821416258997072443" } }

"BytesDownloaded" "123456" should tell Steam that there is something.

Game isn't even recognized? So is there still "install"?

If your buddy sends the file to you and then you drop it where the blank file is up to date, then it'll be pretty safe.

At install you have to stand "ARK".

I've put your content together. You can try this.

If the game is detected in this way, you should verify/validate the game files via Steam directly afterwards.

 { "appid" "346110" "Universe" "1" "name" "ARK: Survival Evolved" "StateFlags" "4" "installdir" "ARK" "LastUpdated" "1546915851" "UpdateResult" "0" "SizeOnDisk" "12772699651" "buildid" "3261795" "LastOwner" "76561198124511924" "BytesToDownload" "0" "BytesDownloaded" "0" "AutoUpdateBehavior" "0" "AllowOtherDownloadsWhileRunning" "0" "ScheduledAutoUpdate" "0" "StagingFolder" "1" "UserConfig" { "language" "english" } "InstalledDepots" { "624" { "manifest" "6415342253277896102" } "622" { "manifest" "2180841775043336221" } "621" { "manifest" "5315625579909971887" } "323180" { "manifest" "4821416258997072443" "dlcappid" "323180" } } "MountedDepots" { "624" "6415342253277896102" "622" "2180841775043336221" "621" "5315625579909971887" "323180" "4821416258997072443" } }

The file is empty? That's your problem.

The file is in the right place, but it does not use anything empty. The information must be stored there as in the guide.

I believe (but not sure) that you go to Steam when you go to the library to the left where your games are listed right click on ark then make properties and there you might specify installation path

Steam > Secure and restore games. Then select the ARK folder.

I didn't mean that. But you have the ARK files in a folder then simply use the with the Recover function.
