Start drawing with a graphics tablet?
Hello. Am I doing everything right (at least approximately ^^):
I chose and ordered a graphics tablet today and want to use Photoshop as the software.
At the beginning I want to draw in the direction of manga and comics, also because I don't have the confidence to do more than that yet.
My choice fell on the "XP-Pen Star03".
Since I have two very good different monitors with 4K resolution (one of which is also factory calibrated), I chose a tablet without a screen for now.
I decided not to use the "pen tilt detection" feature because I don't expect it to be a big enough benefit to be worth the extra cost (double or triple the price).
I want to search for learning videos on YouTube to learn.
Somewhere inside me, there seems to be a talent buried deep inside me, because as a child I once won a great prize with a picture. Maybe I'll find it (again). (But I haven't really drawn since then, or not that I can remember.)
I hope that I can express things in art and at least learn the basics so that I can appreciate and understand drawn art more.
Is there anything else you would like to give me advice on, add to, suggest to, or correct?
Are there any places where we can exchange ideas that you'd like to recommend? (I just subscribed to the hashtags here on GF today, and I don't yet know how active the community is with it and how they share their drawing ideas. I've actually given up on GF's search function because, for example, it mostly shows questions from 10 years ago and are no longer relevant, so I didn't really search, sorry.)
Hello, first of all I draw, are about one year digital on my iPad. I use the app “Ibis Paint” which is free. But I know that most digital characters work with procreate or something.
I would advise you to make yourself familiar with the program if you decided to familiarize yourself and get a feeling of it through simple drawings. Don’t try to create a masterpiece right away.

Thank you. I’ve heard about the IPad that this should be very good. I have a bit of a bareness in front of Apple products, probably unfounded. If I had chosen a drawing tablet, then with Windows, because I can run all my usual programs and because of the usual environment. Now I’d probably consider the IPad.
Yesterday I noticed that at the first attempt. Recording (after reference) still goes, but free from the head is still difficult. I want to continue and practice with objects and forms (at the moment I can only do on paper).
Greetings
Yes, even if I’ve been drawing a little longer, I can’t get it out of my head and use references. I wish you luck.

I don’t want to say too much because I’m a beginner, but there seems to be signs that help themselves with geometric shapes in the image they then weep. for example, half an ellipse in the face so that they know the position of the eyes. I think, for example, at Manga it is probably a practice eye to be able to noses, hair, then I have heard some of the expressions, such as drawing eyes (with which expressions). However, I am ambitious and therefore still practiced yesterday to simply record free areas from the face (eyes, hair, wrinkles, etc.) I seem to be still hard to assess sizes and distances correctly. I still want to practice this, and let it go through my head, at the moment I’m going to take a little break, but time would have the mood to fit, maybe sometimes sometimes.
Feel honored that you thought back on it. Yeah, it’s really nice to be able to draw in the lounge until you hurt your arms from the support. By the way, letting music run makes you feel good again. :
Now it is also my goal to draw from my head, but unfortunately I don’t have enough time to practice much. But then I find it very impressive:)
I also want to work to be able to get it out of my head, yesterday I had the first reference drawing, but it was just drawn. I hope I can do it. The person who has allowed me to record means they make it out of my head, and the drawings were quite impressive to me!
I’ve been thinking about you today because I kept it in my head: I’ve been drawing in a short position and then a pad would be fine, so it’ll probably soon become one if I want to work “offline” from the PC.
Thank you. Good vibes, and Mood can I use 🙂 (I just listen to atmospheric music)

This has a lot of functions. If you’ve never used this before, you’re turning on a simpler software.
Whatever stalk you want to draw. Everything has its challenges. Manga Art is not so easy. If you just want to try it out, then first draw cartoons. Simple males to get used as a tablet.
Whether this was the quality of the drawing is questionable. In my primary school we had a drawing competition 1x a year. Partly, ugly scribbles have won.
Art is free from beauty ideals. Everything can be art, even glasses on the ground. You will have to practice the basics until content. It’s best to put those a notebook to practice everywhere or if you have nothing else to do. This can help the channel Drawing like a sir. He’ll just and understand it.
It doesn’t matter. You can also see the period of filtering you want. But the problems of the catchers do not really change. Only the year changes. No matter how old a question is, if it contains helpful answers, it doesn’t matter whether 10 years ago or 3 months ago.
You can go from YouTube to Insta or in the Discord channel at any time. It’s easy to exchange.
Thanks for the honest opinion. Of course it wasn’t a masterpiece what could have been with artists, but for the age it was something. I’d rather stress that I don’t come from another star than a beginner, that could have been like that.
Thanks for the Youtube channel tip, and the notebook.
Then I should have looked at the search function better, thank you.
Ah, well to know, thank you!
Thanks for the many helpful tips and advice, now I know more.
I made myself a little stupid with the competition. I wanted to say that by competitions and general praise many believe that they would be the best signs. Such a competition is also uncommon and if you get too often or too much praise, many simply rest on it and say that their bargains with Edding would be the most beautiful and best thing there is and not work on themselves.
An artist should always strive to improve. No matter how good someone is.
I took the tip with the shapes very seriously and very intensively practiced/trained. I have practiced straight lines (but in all directions, so that I no longer have to turn the paper for a desired line), paralelle lines, circles, right angles, squares, bit spirals, but also before all preife to a line (so that he does not exceed, but also does not stand too far away), lines exactly after painting [so everything for the engineic], There are really some
So my motor skills have already improved for a lot, so I want to continue such exercises. I then discovered a problem with the drawing, the size estimation has not been completely matched. So I started to draw a 5cm line free, and then I think if I still get this better, tomorrow it goes on, a vase small was also there ^ – music has been very good, I had a lot of fun.
Thank you, these are very valuable tips!
The beginning can be really smashing. It is important that you understand how something is shaped and built. What shapes do your vase remember at home? ZB a high rectangle with half an oval on top. With shapes you can better understand something and thus also draw.
Use references if you want to draw from your head. Get some stuff in Photoshop and work it as you want.
Yeah, it was just an assertion without being able to present anything, so it’s also my fault. It has been a highly flying eagle (from left to right), big in the foreground (springs and head a little more in detail), with a view to a valley (or down in the background) or a village and I believe natural landscape (possibly one or more mountain(s)). (fitting to my former residence). I’m pretty sure drawn with pens.
I came to my limits yesterday at my first attempt to draw something free from my head, I want to practice, and start with objects to be able to draw the feeling of space realistically (first time) then or parallel with animals. Faces are still in the distance for me, I guess, or I imagine them very complicated, or new land.
A feature I would never want to miss.
And get Clip Studio Paint, Photoshop is not a paint program. Can be done, but it is more suitable for the processing of photographs. Krita should also be very good. And SAI, but I think you need a credit card.
Clip has a forum.
Thank you very much.
Sure. I wish you a lot of fun with the tablet. I hope we’ll see something from you.
I’m going to try
For comic and manga the program is: Clip Studio Paint Pro is significantly better suited than Photoshop.
I agree.
Photoshop (in my opinion) is not a suitable program for drawing. I would recommend a proper drawing program, such as Clipstudio Paint, Paint Tool Sai or Krita
