Strength of contact lenses?

Hello, my dears! 🙂

I've been wearing glasses since fall 2019, but they're a bit worn out by now. This is one of the reasons why I'd like to switch to contact lenses (sure, you'll always need glasses, but I'd rather wear them all day).

I had -3.5 in 2019 and -3.25 in the other eye, as far as I remember. I'd have to get everything checked again, because my eyes are definitely worse than they were back then.

Are there any contact lenses with this strength or higher?

In everyday life, contact lenses can already offer many advantages. Your strength is not very high, but not very low.

However, contact lenses cannot completely replace a spectacle because their wearing time is limited. You’re not gonna get around on a new usable glasses. Also recommended is a replacement glasses, only if you wear glasses or glasses.

Contact lenses must be individually adapted. There are different types that are different well suited. The entire handling thus has to be shown and explained by the contact lens adaptor anyway.

Hm. You didn’t answer the question…?

Most defects can be corrected very well with contact lenses. Strengths up to minus 20 dpt. are quite feasible. Nevertheless, you should be able to explain, in principle, whether there are medical reasons against contact lenses. For this, ophthalmologists are the right address. To then have contact lenses adapted to your eyes, make an appointment with the optician or with an optician. There, other measurements are made and contact lenses are selected for your eyes based on the results. In addition to the diopter values, material and fit also play a decisive role, as the lenses, unlike the glasses, sit directly on your eyes. The handling and care of contact lenses will also be explained and shown to you by the optician, so that you will be able to cope with them easily.

Hello liavrs,

Of course, there are contact lenses in this strength – and higher.

You do it right, let the optician make a visual test for a new spectacle, and to do this a survey of your eyes for contact lenses.

You only have -3,50 dioptrics; How do you think there are no contact lenses for these normal values??

If it had to be checked again, my eyes are definitely worse than at the time.

To adapt the contact lens, you would have to be able to determine the required strength (which is not necessarily identical to the values of the glasses).

I’m sorry if I catch up, but there’s only a misunderstanding. Vll. it was an apprentice, because there are definitely contact lenses in the strength you described us in your question.

That’s really weird, it’s nothing special. Just make an appointment for adjustment (you need it or something), everything else will be done.

But the strength will not fail because these are not high values and there are countless possibilities for contact lenses.

Attention, the strength for glasses is not like that for the lenses. It’s urgent to make an appointment with the optician. For a current visual test and the lens sample.
