Constant lump in the throat, what to do?

For the past few days, I've had a constant lump in my throat. It's mostly runny/mucusy, and when I clear my throat, I swallow it, and a minute later, I have another lump in my throat. What could it be? And what can I do? I keep drinking water, but it doesn't help. I thought maybe I was getting sick, but I've never had that before and can't tell. I clear my throat so much that I'm starting to get a sore throat.
