SRS error code cannot be erased?

Hello, the SRS light in the instrument cluster on my 1996 Mercedes W202 lit up, which turned out to be a faulty belt tensioner. I replaced the belt with a used one, but the SRS light stayed on. Well, I thought, I'll just delete the error code from the control unit. But that didn't work! So I went to an authorized Mercedes workshop to have the error code deleted, but the good man said that it's not possible to delete an SRS error, not even by the manufacturer, and that I would have to buy a new airbag control unit. Can anyone help me?

Kind regards

That's new to me. I've never installed a new control unit before. But it's possible that your belt tensioner wasn't the faulty one. There's a so-called seat occupancy mat in the seat. This is sometimes also displayed as a belt tensioner error.

Wenn der Fehler nicht löschbar ist, ist er akut noch vorhanden und muss erst beseitigt werden

Of course you can delete the error at Mercedes, the good man just wanted to sell you something.

Independent workshops can (and are allowed to) also clear airbag system errors if they have the appropriate diagnostic equipment. Just ask around.
