Close grandma's savings account?

Hello.

My grandmother recently passed away. While clearing out the apartment, a savings book belonging to my grandmother turned up. However, it was registered to my grandmother and my brother. I have absolutely no contact with my brother anymore.

Now the question is, is it possible to close the savings account without contacting him?

Thanks for the help.

There are no community accounts for grandparents and grandchildren. The savings book is one of both, most likely your grandma.
You need an inheritance from the estate court, so you go to the bank.

Just take the money down to a euro. That’s possible.

However, it is only allowed to cancel up to 2000 euros

Theoretically yes, quote from the savings bank;

theoretically, anyone who is in the possession of the savings book can pay the balance. No legitimation check shall be made for payment. This means that it is not necessary to check whether the owner of the savings book is also really the one who introduces the savings book.

No, unless she has inherited it

If you have the savings book, you can also dissolve it, you don’t have to contact.
