Should I buy a car as a student?

I will soon be studying biology and will be moving for that (300km away) and wanted to ask if I should get a car.

I love cars and tuning, I was born there, as my father is a car mechanic and has enjoyed pimping things up since he was 20-25.

Unfortunately, we had to give up my, or rather our last two project cars, due to lack of space and such.

My financial situation:

I'll receive BAföG, and even with the full benefits plus housing allowance, that would be about €811 a month. I'll also get child benefit from my parents plus €200, and I'll then look for a €450 job. That would give me €1,461 a month.

My invoice/expense:

• Rent including heating 390€

• Electricity 60€ per month

• 250-300€ per month for food.

• 100€ monthly (installment)

• ~50€ per month (Wi-Fi and streaming)

• ~30€ for insurance

After deducting these fixed costs, I would have about €600 left.

My car bill

• Liability insurance 100€ per month (max. 130€)

• Petrol 100€ per month

Then I'd have about €300-400 left over, and as a €450 job I could become a pizza delivery driver or something, then I'd also have tips.

Actually it would be stupid or inadvisable to buy a car, but I love driving and tuning, although tuning will be left out for the time being and it will be more about driving and will probably be something small, like a C1 or Fiesta or Peugeot 106 (but the older, nicer ones).

In most university towns you come as a student, with the semester ticket very well over the rounds. The fewest students then afford a costly (unnecessary) car.

Sounds good to me. You may have. The possibility of insuring the car over your parents? This is much cheaper.

I see the greatest advantage here that you can drive home flexibly at any time.

In addition, a car purchase is not a life decision. Especially small cars are always looking for, so if your car becomes a financial burden, just sell it again.

As I said, it’s not a life decision. I couldn’t do it. And if you notice you need the car less often than thought, just sell it again.

As a student you should go public when the car is broken it can go very quickly into 3-4 digits, what do you do? Hunger in the month where it’s broken?

For the maintenance of a car you can expect about 300 euros (even more if more) a month

There are also reserves for possible repairs.

Food and household is missing in your bill

Eating is in it. I mean something like cleaning agent, shower gel, garbage bag toothpaste etc. And grandparents pay the parts for the car? Are you and your father? Insurance seems to me a little bit less, just like 100 euro for Sprit. There you hardly drive:)

If your computer is right and you get out with the rest and you’re looking for a job, it should work well.

Gasoline 100€ monthly? Well, I guess you’re not driving the car… Does a car pay?

You have to guess if you’re worth the cost of a car. However, consider that a car has more costs than the tank. As a student, you should always do something aside at least monthly. Bsp: Have you paid your fixed costs and let’s say about it. 400€, put 100€ by side.
