Should I quit?
Hello everyone,
I need advice from someone with several years of professional experience. I'll try to explain my situation as simply as possible so that even people without an IT background can help me.
I completed my IT training at the end of 2020 and then landed a position as an IT specialist in administration. However, it was only a temporary position, meaning I mostly worked according to predefined procedures. Although I was actually overqualified for the position, I enjoyed the work—especially because I was able to observe my colleagues and solve problems independently.
However, I was often held back because certain administrative tasks were strictly assigned. I demanded more responsibility to increase my salary, but I was always told to focus on my area of work. Nevertheless, I was given tasks that, according to my superiors, were not actually part of my area of responsibility, with the justification that I had to cover for colleagues. Even though I supposedly had "no experience" for these tasks, I was able to complete them without any problems.
I'm now quite frustrated because I feel exploited and am considering quitting. In my current position, due to staffing shortages, I'm often alone in the office, answering the phone for IT issues in addition to my regular work. In these situations, I often feel overwhelmed. When I confront my boss about this overload, he tells me to reassure people that "we'll take care of everything"—even when that's not the case. My boss himself often doesn't talk to people, instead telling me what to say.
I raised this issue with my boss, but was told I couldn't handle the stress and shouldn't ask for more pay. I get the impression that my boss always withdraws when I complain, doesn't answer the phone, and passes the responsibility on to me.
Now I ask myself: Am I to blame for this situation? Will it be worse in other areas? Or is this normal in many companies? I always tell myself that these stress-related reactions will stop as I get older and gain more experience.
I would be happy to hear your opinions and experiences!
You’re absolutely right. would be looking for something new at your place.
they’re trying to scare you where they can and because you’re young it just works.
with me has always helped to take my job description and to list the things I actually do.
then always said to the chief, we have two options:
either we adapt my job description and there is more money, or I only do what is in the job description. you have the choice.
in 95 % of the falsified there was then more content.
Yes I have in this case the problem that each of us has about the same job description. With me, he’s doing this to the professional experience.
that only make people who don’t have any arguments. according to your statement, you don’t think about the quality of your colleagues in anything. Four years are not nothing.
Yes, that sounds to me after a termination. Especially because apparently not exactly clear what to do and because you feel overqualified.
Look at what’s going on in the labour market and send out applications. This sounds neither after a positive working environment, nor after a capable boss, nor even after a satisfactory work task with fair remuneration.
Your perception doesn’t deceive you.
So my boss is really nice and I like him, but that’s what happens to him often…
I think your boss is a nice guy. But he’s using you completely. He makes you his voice pipe – that’s really not your job. Because he manages collaboration, he gets a decent batch more money than you.
