Due to the important treasures of famous architecture, I would choose Sicily. Very well preserved is the amphitheater in Taormina overlooking Etna.

Interesting are the ancient mosaics of Villa Romana del Casale near Piazza Armerina comment image https://sizilien.viva-italia.it/Excavations/Villa_Romana_del_Casale.php

Agrigent owns the best preserved Greek temples

In Palermo, among others is the grave of one of the most important German rulers from the Middle Ages https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grabmal_Kaiser_Friedrichs_II.

Was not yet in either of the two regions, but would say Sicily. Sicily offers much more to visit than Sardinia. Architecture/Palermo and Etna are two examples

In Sicily, you will certainly find yourself, in Sardinia I have never been.
