Should the minor be similar?

Hey guys

I'm considering studying computer science at LMU. LMU is the only university in Germany that I know of that offers computer science as a minor.

I have a very broad range of interests. Therefore, I might want to minor in politics or linguistics, as those are also areas that interest me greatly.

My question is, is it advisable to do that? I've heard many times that it's a good idea to choose a practical major, so you can do something you enjoy in your minor. Is that true? I'm also not sure whether it would be a good idea to have a minor that's relatively far removed from your major. Is that more of an advantage or a disadvantage?

thanks in advance

Hi.

Unfortunately, you haven’t been well informed – 2 minutes of research show me Wuppertal and Bielefeld as options, but didn’t look further on what is still available as options.

Another possibility is to study apprenticeships and to make a specialist master after the Bachelor degree. For example, you have the possibility at Freie Universität Berlin: You could make the Lehramtsbachelor (B. Sc.) with information as a main subject and politics as a secondary subject and then join a specialist in computer science. The option is also available at other universities.

I myself studied chemistry and Latin for teaching and loved it. I felt it extremely enriching to study two such different areas and thus to be able to draw from a broader range of knowledge. If you’re good in two such different subjects and have fun, I definitely guess.

Yes, it would be because there is hardly any other option. There are few universities where you can study info with a minor without an educational option. The lesson is about 30 LP. You can also do the Master without an apprenticeship, i.e. a specialist master.

That depends on it. You have a safe bank with computer science. By your side compartment like politics, you are wide fanned and you are sure to have many doors open.
