Should I buy a used MacBook Pro 2021 with M1 pro (10 CORE) or a MacBook Air 2023 with M3 (8 CORE)?
Hello everyone,
My old 2015 MacBook Pro is slowly giving up. I don't have enough storage, and I don't want to upgrade it because the laptop is slowly losing updates and I can't update from Monterey to the newer version.
That's why I've been thinking about buying a new MacBook for around €1,500. Especially with the student discount, it would be a good idea.
I use the laptop for simple everyday tasks at university and at home. But also for demanding tasks. I enjoy programming, running a few containers, and making music in Ableton. I don't do anything with demanding renderings, etc.
I definitely need 16 RAM and over 500 GB storage.
What would you recommend to me?
- MacBook air 2023 m3 with AriPods: €1,659.00
- MacBook pro 2021 m1 pro: €1,511.00
PS: I like connections and the display is unimportant
I once searched the eBay prices out, because there you get the equipment much cheaper:
MacBook Air M3 1300 €, MacBook Pro M1 Pro 1100 € both with 16/512
Advantages MacBook Pro M1 Pro
Advantages MacBook Air M3
In the comparison you can see that the MacBook Pro with M1 Pro is significantly better off. You have to love the thin and light, so that you do not have all the advantages and access the MacBook Air.
That’s how I think. At the same time, I have some other thoughts: For me, 100 to 200 euros are not scary for a new device that is well used. I don’t want to pay any low price on Ebay either. The future features with Apple Intelligence are important to me and not shown in m1 and m1 per.
Screen and speakers are not sooo crucial for me. I use 80% of the time the laptop at the docking station and 20% in the university, where a light, elegant design is really cool!
How is performance moderate? I hardly bring my Macbook book per i7 16 GB RAM to the limits. If I need an M1 or I can’t reach as much with an M3. How significant are the differences in memory and memory?
Thanks for the help 🙂
The MacBook Pro is the better device and makes more sense, but in areas that seem to be irrelevant to you. I myself also stood in front of the same decision and chose the MacBook Air because it is so thin and light even though it does not make sense purely objectively.
The MacBook Air is very powerful anyway that it is enough for me, even if I have higher demands and so much difference in performance is not there either.
You can also use Apple Intelligence with the M1.
As far as the memory is concerned, I did not test how much it differs, but I can imagine that the system is already running a little more liquid. The values are more than twice as good and faster memory is often decisive for fast charging.
Even if the MacBook Pro is the better deal, basically it doesn't matter, both are very good devices.
