Should I allow readers to incorporate their own ideas into my lexicon?

Hello there,

After much deliberation, I decided to publish my private dragon encyclopedia on Wattpad.

This is already very extensive with 87 chapters (without introduction).

Personally, I like it when, as a reader, I can contribute my own ideas or suggestions that have an impact on the book and are therefore also incorporated.

On the other hand, I don't want my custom dragon species to be used just like that (without permission). So, if I incorporate reader ideas, things might get a bit complicated.

What do you think about it?

If you don’t want to, you can’t allow reader ideas.

If I’m honest, I find the idea difficult.

You have ideas and make a kind of lexicon from it… that’s great. But what is it supposed to serve on Wattpad? When I hit a lexicon, I don’t do it to read it, but if, then to answer a question.

In a dragon’s lexicon, I would probably want to know something about dragons, I would strike your lexicon, read an answer there, and then I would (probably) pour into my work somewhere, because I finally looked in for it.

But apart from that: As far as your idea is concerned, I have to tell you very hard and clear: if you don’t want anyone to take anything from your book (which is probably difficult, because you’ve also collected your knowledge somewhere, at least in basic traits), then you shouldn’t let any ideas of the readers come in.

For I, for example, know myself and with me there would be a lot of problems if you would ask for my idea, but at the same time give me to understand ‘that is MY, there is no one to it, not even you yourself’.

I understand what you mean. Thank you for your opinion.

I must honestly confess that Lexicon is not the right term for it either. It is rather a detailed collection.

In principle, I do not prohibit the use of the information in it, on the contrary. I’m happy if someone is interested in it. I just wish that a brief permit is asked before use.

Something like: “Hey, I like this and that, can I use it?” And then I say too.

This is also briefly described in the introduction:

Before the use of information, etc., I ask for a brief question. As you then use this information, all of you are left.

Maybe I’m just oddly hired there, but that’s for me something like a sign of appreciation of my work that’s in it.

And I use Wattpad to publish my works and because some people (mainly friends) wanted this book there to read it.
