I don't think it should be banned because fishing doesn't harm the fish. I only eat the big fish and release many of them, while there are big fishing boats that take out whole schools of fish and really harm the fish population.

I used to catch plenty of eels at one spot, but today there are none left and that is definitely not because of the anglers who caught 1-2 animals there

Fishing is by far the most sustainable method of catching fish. In any case, fishing in a given body of water is only permitted with a fishing license and permission from the relevant fishing club.

Fewer fish also die in the sea this way than with other methods.

Trawls, dynamite fishing, longlines, and purse nets kill far more fish, and many die completely in vain. With large trawls, a lot of dead fish are thrown back into the water as bycatch. It's technically illegal, but where there's no complainant, there's no judge.

For many marine animals, the constant noise from sonar, ships, and sound cannons is a major problem. For whales and dolphins in particular, but also for many fish, sonar and sound cannons are extremely disturbing.

Whales can even die, become deaf and stranded

Shark finning is even worse. This involves cutting off sharks' fins while they're still alive, and then throwing the sharks back. They then die. Since fins are the only ones that bring in a lot of money, certain fishermen only take the fins and can store more, thus killing many sharks. This is technically prohibited, but it's hardly enforced.

Sharks, dolphins, bony fish, seabirds, seals, sea turtles and even whales regularly die in these shark nets that are behind popular beaches when they get tangled up, just like in drifting ghost nets.

All the garbage in the water also harms

Fishing lines and hooks become a problem when they break. It can happen that waterfowl, for example, swallow hooks and lines. Responsible anglers naturally try to prevent this, also because of costs.

It's not possible, it won't get a majority. Fish are caught and eaten elsewhere anyway—how many Germans are vegan? 4%?

However, it is true that fishing has too great an impact on many bodies of water, but that does not mean that all fishing can or should be banned.

PETA is an animal rights organization. They support veganism. In that sense, it's clear that they oppose fishing, but also other types of fishing. But without a majority, nothing will happen.

Remember that anglers also care about protecting the waters.

What I don't like is "catch and release." It's unnecessary animal cruelty. But fishing to eat the fish is perfectly fine.

No, otherwise you will soon have so many fish in the water that nothing will work and nothing else will survive

No, it should just be regulated as it is.

No, why?

And I don't even eat fish, but let them fish, they look so happy doing it.

No, very fresh fish, home-caught, tastes very good.

Corresponds to the truth.

I also slaughter one of my chickens if I want to eat meat.

No, fishing is already heavily regulated in Germany

What do you THINK of…

I don't think much of it.

That's not possible, because money is flowing.
