Set up Cura support structure?

How do I configure Cura so that I don't want a support structure in, say, a Star Wars helmet? I just don't want one inside, since it would fill the entire helmet and isn't really needed. The visor, however, does require a support structure.

Since I don't know the helmet model, two possibilities:

  • You can say that it should not build support inside (Support Placement – Touching Buildplate)
  • You can set the Overhang Angle support so that the inner areas are without support.

I also mean that you can define areas in the latest version where no support is to go, but I have never tested that.

Otherwise try Tree Support (under experimental), to turn off the normal support. The uses much less filament.

The helmet will be open at the bottom so that the automatic support inside by "Touching Buildplate" cannot be avoided, except by the mentioned addins…

If the overhang is too high, support structures also make sense.

You can automatically generate or disable support structures in Cura. In addition, you can install an addon in which you can define exactly the areas, so you want to have support structures or can also define areas where you do not want support.

These addons have to be downloaded from Ultimaker, which goes within Cura via the "Marketplace"
