Self-employment as a wildlife and nature photographer?

Hey, I'm currently thinking about starting my own business with my hobby alongside my studies.

I love photography and would go in the two directions mentioned above.

Do you have any idea how best to get started or how it all works?

Hello

Making money with wildlife and natural photography can be a challenge because there are many passionate photographers and impressive pictures. But with creativity, patience and a bit of entrepreneurial spirit, there are different ways to generate income with your photos:

1. Stock Photography

  • For example, I generate some of my income. I walk every day in forest and nature. And by the way, I usually take 7 photos. So every day 7 photos. Once a week, I will give these photos to an employee of me (or we would rather call him Freelancer partner) who works them and send them to Stockfoto agents on the Internet (Adobe.Stock and Shutterstock), where they are then offered to the general public and the usage licenses are sold. Over time, 10,000 photos are available after 4 years.

Two. Freelance contracts

  • Editorial: Work for magazines, blogs or newspapers that need natural and wildlife photography.
  • Cooperations: Partners with brands or organisations active in the natural and environmental sectors.

3. Print sales

  • Online Shop: Sell Print your photos online through your own website.
  • Art fairs/marketplaces: Present and sell your works on local events or markets.

4. Workshops and courses

  • Online courses: Create courses on photography that you can offer online.
  • On-site workshops: Guide workshops and photo tours in interesting natural areas.

Five. Exhibitions

  • Galleries: Place your work in local galleries or at art events.
  • Competitions: Join photo competitions to present your work and win prizes.

6. Book publications

  • Photobooks: Create books or e-books that present your best works.
  • Works with publishers who are looking for special nature and animal photographs.

7. Social Media & Blogging

  • Influencer: Build a community on platforms such as Instagram and cooperate with brands.
  • Affiliate Marketing: Use affiliate links for photography products and receive a commission for sales generated by your links.

8. Lectures and presentations

  • Speaker: Lectures at events or conferences.
  • Educational institutions: Offer presentations or courses at schools or universities.

In order to earn money with photography, you need not only technical skills and a creative eye, but also business sense. By diversifying your income streams and using different platforms and opportunities, you can maximize your income as a natural and wildlife photographer.

Each point could be a source of income alone or be used in combination with others.

The key is to continuously build your brand and constantly produce high-quality work.

Love

And if you have any questions, please ask;-)

You can offer your photos to agencies. Whether you can live with it is more questionable.
