See flashes in eyes?

I've been seeing flashes every now and then for a few days. Around the same time, a headache started. Today I went to the emergency room because of it. The doctor there (not an ophthalmologist) said it was probably a migraine. However, since he didn't really examine my eyes (he shone a light and looked, but I don't know if that's enough to determine anything more serious), I'm still a little worried. Should I go to another emergency room, or will it be sufficient to just see an ophthalmologist on Tuesday (because of the holidays)?

Lightning and headaches are usually a sign of migraine with aura.

Only flashes could at worst indicate retinal detachment, which would be a medical emergency.

To this end, it is not enough to drive into an emergency room, it must be a clinic with emergency eye outpatient, usually the university clinics.

No one knows exactly what you have, but for retinal detachment, headaches would be untypical. It sounds more like migraine for me, but ultimately you have to decide how to proceed now.

Hello fae22,

I’ve been seeing flashes again and again for a few days

is it enough to go to an ophthalmologist on Tuesday (because of holidays)?

Why do you ask us who are not eye doctors what we recommend to you for DEINE eyes?

Go to an eye clinic nowIf your pair of eyes is worth something, not only after the holidays.

Happy for you!
