Indirect pronouns of the 3rd person (le/les) become too se, if there is also a direct pronoun (lo/los, la/las).

Pídele el libro. Pídeselo. S lo pides.

The meaning is the same (he, you, them, you).

Right. There is a direct and an indirect object. But only if the indirect object is replaced by the indirect object pronoun, is le and les too se.

In other words, if a direct pronoun meets an indirect pronoun.
