Salmon

You only have to go to the RS if you live in Switzerland. However, if you come back before you are 26, you must retrieve the duty of service.

One of my officer colleagues lived in London. For the WK, he came to Switzerland voluntarily for 3 weeks.

In my then RS we had a recruit who lived in Puerto Rico. His mother was a Swiss woman and so he had Swiss citizenship. Switzerland gave him the trip and a few weeks of holiday in Switzerland if he volunteered to make the RS. It was funny with him, he spoke only Swiss German, he couldn’t speak high German and also not read daytime orders.

In Switzerland, he first saw snow and loved it. He would have preferred to take his storm rifle to Puerto Rico.
