Schulwechsel nach Kanada – warum brauche ich einen Nachweis, dass dort ein Schulabschluss gemacht werden kann?
Hallo zusammen,
mein Sohn (16) hat das deutsche Gymnasium (G8 NRW) bis zur 9. Klasse besucht und damit einen Hauptschulabschluß. Die 10. Klasse hat er als Auslandsjahr in Kanada verbracht und beschlossen, auch die 11. und 12. Klasse und damit seinen Schulabschluß in Kanada zu machen. Da ein weiteres Jahr Beurlaubung mit Verweis auf die maximale Verweildauer in der Oberstufe seitens der Obersten Schulaufsichtsbehörde abgelehnt wurde (hätten wir gerne gemacht, um uns eine Rückkehr offen zu halten…), wird er nun die Schule ganz verlassen.
Die Schule möchte von uns einen Nachweis, dass er im Ausland einen Schulabschluss machen kann – und wir fragen uns, warum müssen wir das nachweisen? Eine Bescheinigung der Schule über den Schulbesuch des letzten Schuljahres (Klasse 10) und dass er auch Klasse 11 dort machen wird, liegt der deutschen Schule vor.

Your son is subject to school, which is why he needs a certificate (or a certificate from school abroad) to prove that he has gone abroad to school. After the 10th grade, however, he does not need this school certificate, as your son has completed his compulsory schooling with a real school degree.
With a primary school degree, one has not yet fulfilled his compulsory schooling.

Thank you, Herminela, but why did you finish school with a real school degree? There are people who don’t even have a primary school degree? I wasn’t aware that there was a ‘middle school leave’…
After the 10th grade, one has finished his compulsory schooling and thus has the final school degree. The real school degree is just the “minimum” thing to achieve in our school system.
Some pupils in the primary school spend a year at the vocational school after their primary school degree to complete their compulsory schooling. So alone with the primary school, it’s not done. I have to say that I personally don’t know people who don’t have a primary school degree. But my grandparents, for example, do not have a primary school degree, as they have come to Germany with 20 years and have no German nationality, which is why they are not obligated or not obligated. Your son is obviously still subject to German compulsory schooling. Could it be that he’s still registered with headquarters? This is intended to prevent children from being simply taken out of compulsory schooling.
Thanks, but: In North Rhine-Westphalia, compulsory schooling in primary and secondary education takes place according to § 37 para. 1 of the School Act for the Land of North Rhine-Westphalia (SchulG) ten years. If a gymnasium is visited, full-time compulsory schooling takes only nine years. After that, compulsory vocational training begins => He has 9 years in Germany plus 1 in Canada… and proof that he is now 11th grade.
So it could be a maximum of professional compulsory schooling, what happens to those who do not find a place for training? Do they then violate schooling?
Anyway, I’m going to get some papers from Canada that he can make a school graduation…
