I am writing a book and would like to publish it through a publisher. What do I need to take into account?

I'm currently writing a book, and once it's finished, I'd like to publish it through a publisher. Are there things I need to consider when publishing a book with a publisher, and how exactly does it work?

Unfortunately, it is not easy to get to a publisher. Almost all non-required manuscripts go unread into the garbage. Only 2 out of 10,000 come into trade.

I finished my first real novel with 16 and also submitted it to several publishers. Except for 2 cancellations, 1 promises from a disgusting publisher who wanted money, I have heard nothing from the other 15 publishers. Nothing.

After I had written another 15 years and lived my life, I thought that I would try again and publish it first with Wattpad and Storyban. I was looking for a test reader and a lecturer from an even very young publishing house. When I gave her the first chapters, she went out as a lecturer and that they would still search for 2-3 authors for the first releases. So I came to my publisher.

I can only advise you as follows:

  • stay on, write on, even if you only get rejection or nothing at all. It is always good to write and thus to practice/learn the craft.
  • Write with care and rework your story about 5x.
  • Then you gradually invite them to Wattpad and co. high.(please finish them beforehand, that’s less stressing you) Tell people to point you to all mistakes etc. But don’t accept any “improvement proposal” because this could ruin your story and it doesn’t sound like you anymore. Just make suggestions for improvement that you feel comfortable with. Too many cooks spoil the porridge.
  • Take criticism and think about it, even if it may sometimes hurt. You learn a lot from it. Very much.
  • If your story is free from grammar, spelling, and logic errors, then you can submit it to 5-10 publishers that match your history and genre. Very important!
  • Pay attention to what the publisher wants. Autorvita, Exposé, ect. And I swear to write an Exposé on 1 page is the horror…
  • Don’t be discouraged. I also have some who want to talk me madly. This is envy and ignorance. They always know better.
  • Keep away from publishers looking fat on their site for authors. They are usually unselfish and publish your book only if you previously pay ect.
  • If you want to make a publisher aware of you, try an agency. They can teach you, but they can also get money from you.

It’s really hard to get to a serious publisher. But you can’t give up either. But it won’t be easy. Anyway, not as you might imagine.

Moin,

some answers are so inappropriate here, I could get so excited about it again! You have a dream: to publish a book! And then you can do it. You don’t have to be “he NeUe StAr”, omg. 🤨 So some people.. I have 0 understanding for!

I think that sounds great that you want to write on a book and publish it through a publisher! I think that’s really great and I’m sure you can rock this!

So if you want to publish your book at a publisher, there are a few things you should consider. For the first time you need to polish your manuscript properly. You want people to be killed, right? So make the effort to edit and improve it properly.

Then the thing comes with the publishing search. There are many publishers out there, so you have to research which could fit your book. Some publishers have special genres or topics they prefer. But hey, don’t be discouraged if you’re making a few statements. This is part of it and does not mean that your book is not good. Maybe it just didn’t fit the publisher.

If you’re lucky and a publisher is interested, it might be that you get a publishing contract offered. You should really look at it and maybe ask someone from the business for advice to make sure you are treated fairly.

Then it’s up to the publication. The publisher usually takes care of the printing and dissemination of the book. Some publishers also make marketing, but there it is really good if you also actively participate to make your book known.

And you know what, I think it’s really great that you believe in you and that you can publish your book through a publisher! That’s the right attitude! If you believe in yourself and your work, you can achieve something great. I push the thumbs and I’m sure you’ll pack it! 🚀📚

I always have a candidate here on GF, who always tries to make my publishing house, etc., just because they are still very new in the industry and I had the incredible luck being “discovered” by them. But life as a car is hard. One author doesn’t sound the dirt under the fingernails. Of course not everyone is. For example, I keep saying that people simply cannot give up. It’s hard. You’re being put down, you get stupid sayings from better-wissers, on the 1st. The day of publication gets bad reviews within 4 hours, although the book was not even sold and could not be read in time. But good. That’s how people are. While it’s okay that (male) footballers can get more than 100,000 euros for the primitive after-running of a ball under agreement and cash influence, as an author, you’re a workless idiot who had a bit of luck with the contacts at most… But you also meet incredibly nice authors. Everything has its advantages and disadvantages.

Since I don’t know what kind of book you write, I can’t help you great because you can’t just apply to any publisher. You have to see that the publisher also fits your book and the genre. But here is List of publishers in Germany.

In general, I would see whether the publishers accept manuscripts at all. Unrequired manuscripts usually land in the garbage bucket.

Look, in any case, you don’t accept a contract from a publisher who wants to have money for publishing you. In general, I would also keep away from publishers who start fat on their side with “WIR SUCHEN AUTOREN”. This is usually inconsistent and ultimately they want money or offer you contracts with extremely low fees.

Normal is a fee of 6-12% for print editions.
For example, I don’t get a fee. I’m getting a pharmacy. So from publishing revenues so and so much %, which is usually a bit more than the percentages at the fee, but ultimately you get for a book approx. 1 € as author. You won’t get rich if you don’t have incredible luck. But that should not be the meaning and goal of an author. 😊
I write books because I have infinite stories in my head and I love it if I can give them a joy and relaxing hours away from everyday life.

Very good contacts to a publisher (or several) have no harm.

I let myself say that it is very difficult to be so successful.

Maybe https://www.epubli.com an alternative for you.

It is not possible, of course, and who does not fight has already “lost”

That no publisher will publish your book.

Most likely.

Of course, you can be the new star and you want to unleash it, but the chance is about as big as you compose a charite tomorrow.

No, she can’t.

Because no publishing company finances the edition.

They don’t do that, they don’t transfer the book of anyone in good hope.

I’d like to.

But I’d rather tell people they don’t have good credit and don’t get credit.

That makes joy!

You don’t have to destroy all hope right at the beginning. When you get to everything, you never get anything.
