I usually wear glasses with a -5.25 diopter. When I look at myself in the mirror with them, I look significantly slimmer than without. I can sort of understand that this is due to the minus lenses.
But shouldn't the effect be the same if I wear contact lenses? Because then it's not the case. I see myself in the mirror more like I do without any lenses.

No. Contact lenses do not produce a reduced image unlike spectacle lenses.
