In fact, with my setting (HDMI 1.4 output on laptop) 2560 × 1600p @ 120 Hz are possible.

And further: As described in the link below, there are quite controversial information about the topic. Would like to warn that my comment above does not refer to any setting. The theme of HDMI is always a combination of the various components. In the end, I was insecure if my setting could handle 60Hz and max triggering. Testing and returning if necessary is the motto (corresponding to the spirit of time).
