Hello,

I say Potato.

In Bavaria you often say Potato for the singular and for the plural. but also know the term Strawberries from Austria.

In Cologne you know the court “Himmel und Äd” mixed with apple pieces. – The name derives from “earth apple” for potato ( apple from the “earth”) and apples on the trees (from the “hould”).

From the German Platt I know the term Tufts for potatoes; see: https://www.ndr.de/kultur/norddeutsche_lang/plattdeutsch/woerterbuch101.jsp?search term=t%C3%BCften

Under the following link you can find more dialect words for Potatoes; https://www.die-kartoffel.de/31-blog/stories/292-kartoffel-deutsche-dialekte

If, however, Westfälisch Platt is spoken, it means – as far as I know -:

Erdappel

No, German. So with spoken “a” like an English “uppel”.

In Austria yes, although in the larger cities the expression potato is gaining more and more. It’s more like a mix with me.

Nope. My grandma’s gonna tell you Grumbeere. Where I live, people say potato – with one exception: I say truces (mecklenburger Platt for potatoes).

No potato remains potato. An apple hangs on the tree.
