So, you want to replace the SSD on which your “C:” partition also lies against a larger SSD?

You have to do the following:

  • Use an external USB case for your new SSD and integrate it into it: so you can easily clone the internal old SSD data via USB to the new ones
  • Use a Cloning program such as “Macrium Reflect Free” or the like to clon an exact 1:1 image of the old SSD on the new one
  • In the Cloning program increase the C: Partition generated in this way on the new SSD (so it is “just as small” as your current..)
  • Win-R, set up a command line window via “CMD” and in it with “shutdown /s /t 0” the computer complete shutdown (important so that Windows does not just go to a cached rest state!)
  • exchange old SSD for new
  • Restart PC

It should have been. Windows notices that the new SSD has a different serial number than the old SSD. But this is generally such a small change that your Windows activation is not invalidated. (If so, then you would have to renew the Windows registry. But hasn’t happened to me with zig computers yet)
