Replace retro motherboard capacitors?
I want to replace the capacitors on a motherboard. This board is from 1998. Can I just order electrolytic capacitors with the same value, or are they smaller these days, so I have to get ones with the right contact spacing?
.
It is also important that you take non-switching Elkos, which are also clear with the high switching frequencies. The type of connections with distances should be recognized and selected by the seller.
Yes, most of them are smaller today, but it depends on the manufacturer/price. The values can be assumed, in critical areas one can also take a higher voltage value (then keep longer). Then the Elkos that have a different color could be low ESR types, mostly in the range of voltage regulators, which could also be considered. Elkos from brand manufacturers order e.g. Panasonic… But what’s all like a heathen work is usually only worth when things are irreplaceable. Having to swap yourself at nem MB is often hard to solder out the old ones (without breaking anything). Then it can also be that the legs of the new Elko do not fit into the eraser.. etc. If you only have to change one or two because of a defect, you can do that too; cut off the old Elko (with sharp pliers in the middle) then remove the remains. Then the legs (internal contacts) remain from the old Elko, to which you can easily solder the new. (only my experience, etc.) Don’t look so beautiful, but it’s easier than getting the old ones out of the board.
The manufacturers produce different sizes.
Thickness shorter
Narrow longer
The value should be exactly the same as the other components are tuned to it.
But the Elkos look okay…
If they’re dried, you don’t see it from the outside
Then the computer does not start…
Then enjoy brazing
New battery, CMOS resets, three different graphics cards sampled, two different CPUs, several memory sampled.
Helps all nix
Battery exchanged?
He doesn’t. Piept not even.
Mainboards can’t be soldered very nicely – as a layman, it can happen quickly that you take out a contacting rivet… and then the thing is total damage.
Go to a Repair Cafe: There they exchange the Elkos and they usually have them on site!
You can order the one with the same contact distance, i.d.R. there are also.
