Rennmäuse prügeln sich nur noch?
Hallo!
Wir haben zu Anfang des Jahres zwei Rennmäuse gekauft gehabt. Diese sind Geschwister, beides Weibchen. Bisher lief auch alles super. Viel gekuschelt, zusammen gespielt. Doch nun vor einigen Wochen ging es schlagartig los, dass diese sich geprügelt haben. Dies ging so weit, dass man in der Nacht vom fiepsen aufgewacht ist und eine der beiden Mäuse an beiden backen geblutet hat.
Wir hatten diese nun erstmal getrennt gehabt für cr. 2 Wochen, damit die Wunden verheilen und wir herausfinden können was das Problem ist. Nun haben wir Sie in einem neutralen Außengehege erneut zusammengesetzt und konnten herausfinden, dass die Maus, welche NICHT die Wunden hat, extreme Angst vor der anderen Maus hat, da diese so stark es ging versuchte zu flüchten.
Nun sind wir mit unserem Wissen am Ende und Wissen nicht weiter. Es scheint so als könnten diese sich nicht auf eine Rangordnung einigen, was zu schlimmen Verletzungen führt. Was können wir hier tun?

Unfortunately, this is a common problem with racing mice that they don’t like each other at some point… later bringing together works again in the rarest cases ..usually it is more the case that you then have two single animals to hold. :/
But does this individually not lead to considerable problems in animals?

The first possibility: both try to reconnect with the separation grid method. Unfortunately, the association works with a group that was already together was not very often.
Second option: the two individually drop into a new home with new partners or you create another Nagarium and get a parter for each mouse. (Others, leave one and take another).
They should not stay alone in any case.

That sounds quite generalized and doesn’t help me directly. Two new partners would have to come here. How do I know how the other mouse is ticking? It’s hard to find out if the mice are to be used.
This is difficult to answer. I used to have two to three racing girls for my kids. Of course, they have died in the course of many years and I have always bought a new one. 🫣🤫
Mostly there were no problems at the beginning. But sometimes they are suddenly twisted after months and have, unfortunately, even sometimes worn dead or lost again. Can’t do anything! I understood that racing mouse can no longer smell each other and become aggressive. It’s supposed to be the smell. Wash or deo? I don’t know.
