Renault Megane Cabriolet year 2008?
Hello everyone,
I'm currently buying my first car and found a Megane on the internet for 2200€, 165tkm (electric motor and brake pads are broken)
My question:
What do you think of the Renault (Megane) brand? Is it good or bad? Does anyone own a Megane, and if so, what do they need to consider? How expensive are the spare parts?
Is there anything special I should consider when buying a car?
Thank you in advance😊
The then election of the company Renault (“Createur d’Automobile” was often turned into “Createur du Malheur”) – unfortunately not without reason, because the quality of the vehicles was rather mixed in the “Nullerjahr”. Mégane II, Laguna III and VelSatis, as well as Scénic and Espace, there were a lot of trouble, especially electronic nature, only the Twingo, the Clio and the commercial vehicles were quite robust. All others fell through the reliability evaluation and had a bad reputation after a few years!
Did even know one who bought a Mégane CC as an executor in 2005 and drove him only two, three years because the thing was constantly in the workshop. Lastly, some water came across the roof, which the electrics lame – a typical Renault unfortunately really does everything you hear about French cars on the regular table in the years of manufacture. Here again a short film!

That’s why the boxes are so cheap today because they don’t want to have anyone and it’s well known in many places that all Renaults can be enjoyed with caution and are not recommended. Technical units are also more susceptible in section than in other factories, e.g. components of the steering system.
I would rather recommend a German product – but not from VAG, because you can also recommend the vintages that are not so solid – or an older Japanese “from the reindeer hand” as you have more pleasure. Here is another video from ADAC about what to consider when buying a use. Hope I could help you!

Thank you for your honest opinion, but don’t you think the spare parts of Japanese cars are much more expensive?
That’s why I’d rather recommend Opel or Ford – but if you get Opa’s old Mazda 626 for 1000 Euro, you can take it and drive it until it gets expensive. More reliable than a Renault is certainly also.
Brake pads are regular wear. But if you don’t invest 150€ in the change before it comes to sale, you don’t care about care
The defective engine for the roof, I assume, is also difficult and expensive to exchange.
Generally, I wouldn’t recommend French.
If you buy a car, you should generally pay attention to chassis, tires, brakes, electronics, motor and gears.
brake it without pulling in one direction
Engine clean warm and cold
Is the suspension off
Everything works smoothly on electronics
For 2,000€ you hardly get anything good except the car is a small car from the 90s.
If you were looking for a good convertible with 4 seats, at least 5,000€ would be due. For around 3000 you could find a Micra CC, Mx5 NB or Colt CZC
