Remove monitor stand?

Does anyone know how I can remove the stand of the Samsung LC25F396FHUXEN monitor?
I would just have to remove this longer part.

I have a 2560×1440 monitor but have it set to 1920×1080. Is that bad or should I go for the recommended resolution? (2560×1440) and what resolution should I use when gaming since my PC (gaming laptop) isn't that good.
