Remove Microsoft Storage Device?

Hello first of all,

I have two hard drives in my PC: an HDD that's listed as a Microsoft Storage Device and an SSD that's irrelevant here. My HDD is barely functioning, and I want to replace it. Now I have two questions: How do I know what size my hard drive is (I don't know what type it is, since it's only listed as a Microsoft Storage Device), and whether I can even replace this hard drive or swap it for any new one (probably an HDD). (PS: Please hold back on the technical terms; I'm not very familiar with them :))

Thank you for your help

Hello,

presumably you mean the name of the hard drive as it is displayed in the Explorer. If you right click on the corresponding entry and then select “properties”, you will see the size of the respective data carrier. You can insert another hard drive or SSD into your computer and then clone the hard drive to be exchanged. There are various auxiliary programs, such as Macrium Reflect free. Then you can expand the old hard drive. With the help of an installation data carrier or Recovery driveyou can Automatically eliminate startup problems if your system should not boot from the new hard drive. The corresponding disks (USB sticks with at least 16 GB) should be created before the old hard drive is removed on your system.

When you click the “Hardware” tab in the ” Properties” you will see the type designation of all recognized disks. If you googlest after their name, you will also find the size in inches. As a rule, 3.5″ hard disks are installed in desktop PCs, and 2.5″ disks also fit into the same slot via corresponding adapters.

There’s the Windows on it.

Now consider Selber, what happens to a PC without Windows?
